Episode: 2d4g 38: Clamp to the Future (Back to the Future Game) ( 41.04 MB / 48:25)

We played the Back to the Future: An Adventure Through Time, and learned what "88 gigawatts of fun" feels like. It feels a lot like playing an awful cash grab of a board game, turns out.

Do you remember all the times that Marty and Doc Brown murdered future and past versions of themselves and used their own time-blood as fuel for the Delorian? Because this game sure does use that as its primary mechanic. None of us could quite recall those parts of the movie, so I guess it's about time for a re-watch?

This week, the SnakesCast goes abstract, as we put abstract games under the microscope. Today, Wednesday June 21st 2017, we continue to discuss the definition of an abstract game - Jonathan is really, really keen to discuss where the line of representation in a game stops it being abstract, but we're saving that for Friday - and we also discuss some excellent, contemporary abstract games.

Episode: MN 0169 Oink Games - Deep Sea Adventure, Insider, Fake Artist, Maskmen, The Pyramid's Deadline ( 31.04 MB / 38:45)

Nathan likes tiny boxes packed with lots of game pieces from the Japanese game company, Oink Games.

We start off talking Deep Sea Adventure, a press your luck, 20 minute game for 3-6 players.

We continue telling you more about Insider, a 20-question style game for 4-8 players in less than 10 minutes.

Third up is A Fake Artist Goes to New York, where players collectively draw a picture while trying to guess which player doesn't know what the group is drawing. This game plays 5-10 players in 20 minutes.

The Pyramid's Deadline is a game of building a beautiful resting spot for the Pharoah, but if you fail you will be executed. 2-6 players can play in 10-25 minutes.

We end the discussion with Maskmen, a shedding card game with a Lunchadores theme. It should work well with 2-6 players in about 30 minutes.
